As Summer starts to wind down, MR CALL starts thinking about the Fall ahead. While I am not ready to put the swim trunks in storage just yet...I do realize that soon enough we will all be reaching for our sweaters. Last evening was spent cleaning out closets to make some room for the pending season change. That's where Niecy Nash comes in. The host of TLC's "Clean House", she is always good for pearls of wisdom. Over the years, the best piece of advice that I gleamed from her was to divide closets into four piles: To keep, to store, to repair, and to get rid of. Piece by piece, as you sort through your wardrobe, the decisions almost start making themselves, and before your know it you have more real estate than you bargained for in your once cluttered closet.
That said and done, as soon as the closets start to empty, that is when my mind wanders to online shopping. Specifically to J.Crew to be exact. What can be said about this company. Over the last few years they have done a complete 180. And with lead designer Frank Muytjens nomination as Best Menswear Designer at this years CFDA's, it seems like I am not the only one noticing.
As I clipped over to their website, they had just unveiled their Fall men's campaign. Combining themes of Jaques Cousteau and Montgomery Clift, the VP of Menswear "Frank" has created a truly wearable American collection. The stylist, "Jack", continues the develop the line by contrasting saturated colors in unexpected ways. Khacki ties pair with olive shirts and Navy blue tweed slim fitting jackets. Pants and trim and revealing more than a bit of ankle (Note to self: Remember to use self tanner on ankles this Fall). The trusty Brogue shoe is in full force this season...most notably in black. The dark, rich colors, trim styling and layered look is totally going on Mr Call's 'Back to School"shopping list.
So that is why this article was titles "Niecy Nash vs JCREW". On one shoulder, we have a little angel (Niecy) telling me to keep my closets organized and simple. On the other shoulder we have the devil (JCREW) telling me to buy more delicious little outfits for Fall with fantasies of silver screen masculinity and modern day ruggedness.
I made it through the night without purchasing anything. However, only time will tell which gets the better of me. Until then...
